Who says only PGA Tour players have nerves of steel? They must not have ever seen a Westbrook Village Horse Race!
The 2017 Directors' Cup was a nail biter to the end. We started with 31 teams at 9 am and finished with the final two teams at 4:30 pm in a chip off between featuring team captains Dan Benefiel and new member Danny Jones. Benefiel was first to chip and hit the 100 foot chip to within a couple feet. Jones, who had been hot all day hit a great shot that rolled just outside Benefiel's. The team of Dan Benefiel, Barb Bellitt, Kay Massey and Norm Richter were the winners of their flight for the morning event and came out on top for the horse race!
The event had 124 players between the 31 teams in the field. There were three flights based on team cumulative handicap. Each flight sent their top six finishers from the morning event to the afternoon horse races. During the each flights horse race, one team was eliminated on the first two holes and two teams were eliminated on the third hole. The two remaining teams from each flights horse race was sent to the finals which took place over holes 16,17, & 18.
This is always a fun event and this year did not disappoint. Congratulations on the great play by all the teams and we look forward to the 23rd Annual Directors' Cup Next Year!
