July Course Maintenance Update

With the summer in full swing I would like to share some information and update everyone on course conditions.

The RJP Lakes course is mending nicely. With the extra humidity and rain storms we received the Bermuda grass has responded very well. Unfortunately, there are a few areas that have been stubborn during the transition from winter grass to summer grass. These areas are receiving extra water and fertilizer and should continue to improve. The white tee box on hole #18 at the RJP Lakes course has transitioned very poorly and it was decided to sod the entire tee box. The white tee box on #18 will be ready for play this Saturday.

On another note, I have been asked why the pond on #18 at the RJP Lakes GC is lower than normal. Unfortunately, the demand for water has increased significantly this last week with temperatures reaching 118 degrees. Not only does the demand increase but evaporation increases as well. It has been decided that the well pump for the RJP Lakes GC will be replaced this fall before over seeding to improve the productivity of the well. A new pump will provide 33% more water than the existing pump.

The Vistas greens were aerified successfully this week and will be ready to open tomorrow. We will continue to lightly topdress the greens at the Vistas GC to improve the putting surface. As you all may know it takes the greens a few weeks to heal from aerification and we will do our best to speed up the process.

With that been said I would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during these hot months.

Please stay cool and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,

David Escobedo, Head Superintendent
